Betsy + Jesse's Refined Wedding at The Starting Gate at Greathorse

Ryan Williams

The-Starting-Gate-at-GreatHorse-Four-Wings-Photography-cover-1.jpg

Drive through their gated entryway to the mountainside stone and cedar venue with uncompromised views of the Connecticut River Valley. Their breathtaking views match the luxurious design. This extravagant wedding, let The Great Horse focus on Betsy and Jesse’s special occasion, details and bring their vision to life. But don’t take it from me or the fabulous venue; Here’s what our bride and groom had to say about it.

How did you two meet? We met in our Kindergarten Class 20 years ago

  • How did they pop the question? Jesse proposed on Top of the Rock Observation Deck in New York City overlooking the NYC Skyline

  • What was your favorite moment(s) from the wedding? We had a blast dancing with our friends and family - especially when the band called Jesse and all of his groomsmen up to perform "Jessie's Girl" by Rick Springfield. It was hilarious!

  • How long have you been together? We started dating 8 years ago during our Junior year of High School

  • How would you describe your overall wedding experience? Wedding planning was extremely stressful - but it was all worth it! Everything turned out great.

  • What advice would you offer to other couples planning a wedding? Make sure you have a day-of coordinator to handle all of the details. I was so busy throughout the day, I don't know what I would have done without mine!

  • Tell us about your dress! Where did you find it, how did you choose it, how did you know it was the one? I was pretty lucky to find my dress at the second store I went to (The White Dress by The Shore in Clinton, CT). I had tried on a few dresses which were beautiful but just didn't WOW me. The second I walked out of the dressing room in my dress, both my mom and future mother in law stood up and gasped - they knew that was the one! I initially thought I'd choose an elaborate lace gown, but when I looked in the mirror in my simple crepe dress I knew it was perfect for me.

  • Did you see each other before the wedding? If not, did you like waiting or would you have rather done it differently? Tell us why or why not! I didn't want to do a first look but ultimately decided to have one because I didn't want to miss my cocktail hour and reception taking pictures. It wasn't as emotional of a moment as it would have been if I walked down the aisle, but I wouldn't change it.

  • What was the first song you danced to as husband and wife? Father-daughter dance? Mother-son dance? Husband & Wife - Can't Help Falling in Love, Elvis Presley Father/daughter - Butterfly kisses, Bob Carlisle Mother/son- Humble & Kind, Tim McGraw

  • What kind of food was served at your reception? Statler Breast of Chicken, Filet Mignon, and Sea Bass with yummy sides like mashed potatoes, basmati rice, and carrot puree.

  • What were you most anxious/nervous/fearful about regarding your wedding day? What was the outcome? Because my dress was relatively understated and simple, I decided to go pretty glamorous with my hair and make-up. I was nervous it wouldn't all look good together, but I think it all worked out wonderfully!

  • We love to hear about vendors that you particularly loved! List any vendors here and feel free to share your experience. Be sure to include the name of the vendor, their profession, city/state, site, or Facebook page. -Our band, Clockwork Boston, was phenomenal. At least 85% of our guests were dancing at all times. I highly recommend them! -The hair & Make-up team at Divine Elegance Beauty Boutique was amazing. I've never felt more beautiful and they were really fun to hang out with while getting ready.

  • Did you find a store or site that had everything you were looking for? Use this space to talk about favorite shops. (Example, where you got your dress and sites where you got your veil/decor/accessories etc.)I was a total Etsy bride. Almost everything at our wedding, including the custom cocktail napkins with fun facts about us, a wooden sign with our love story on it, and even the pashminas that we gave out as favors, were purchased through various Etsy shops.

Monica and Max's Romantic Wedding at The Inn on Boltwood

How did you two meet? We met at Colby College in 2011

  • How did they pop the question? On a mountain top while we were on vacation in New Zealand.

  • What was your favorite moment(s) from the wedding? - The whole ceremony especially our vows - Our first dance - Seeing everyone we love in one place - When the band came out onto the dancefloor

  • How long have you been together? Nine years this December

  • How would you describe your overall wedding experience? The perfect day.......exactly what we wanted. We could have done without the rain though =)

  • What advice would you offer to other couples planning a wedding? Be in the moment and remember no one will notice the little details. People told us that, but we still worried AND no one noticed.

  • What photography-related advice would you offer to a couple? - be prepared to smile a lot - have a day of planner/friend to keep everyone in line during formal photos

  • Tell us about your dress! Where did you find it, how did you choose it, how did you know it was the one? I found it at Davids Bridal. I knew it was the one because I felt like myself in it and I could see Max smiling looking at me.

  • Did you see each other before the wedding? If not, did you like waiting or would you have rather done it differently? Tell us why or why not! We saw eachother before. Would definitely recommend doing a first look to any couple. It was a nice way to get the nerves out of the way and it allowed us to have fun later in the day!

  • Any tips on what to bring? Don't bring your phone - you won't need it.

  • What was the first song you danced to as husband and wife? Father-daughter dance? Mother-son dance? first dance: Grow as you grow Benn Platt father daughter: my wish by rascal flatts mother son: wildflowers by tom petty

  • What kind of food was served at your reception? filet mignon, chicken and salmon

  • What were you most anxious/nervous/fearful about regarding your wedding day? What was the outcome? Definitely the vows....a lot of pressure! the weather....but we lucked out

  • We love to hear about vendors that you particularly loved! List any vendors here and feel free to share your experience. Be sure to include the name of the vendor, their profession, city/state, site, or Facebook page. We loved the band......everyone was on the dance floor the whole time. Fever Band, Springfiield MA. We also loved you and Seth - you were both so great, fun and professional. Thank you so much!

Elizabeth and Erik's Wedding at Walker Island Campground

Ryan Williams

Black-Birch-Vineyard-Wedding-Four-Wings-Photography_0001.jpg

Elizabeth and Erik were married on August 26th, with a ceremony at Black Birch Vineyard and a reception at Walker Island Campground

These two met at work, and they have been together four years! Erik proposed to Elizabeth after a nice dinner and wine while they were watching a Christmas movie, and ever since that perfect holiday gift, they have been so excited to see it all come together and to be married as man and wife.

Both Elizabeth and Erik were a little nervous, but they had opted for a first look before the ceremony and found that it helped to relieve a lot of the emotion and stress of the day. By the time they got to their ceremony, they were able to better enjoy each other and their love, and it showed!

From there, it was off to a clambake-style dinner before the guests danced the night away at the Walker Island Campground. These two made a real effort to make sure their family and friends were having fun, and it was wonderful to see them partying with the people they are closest to.

Erik & Elizabeth, thank you for letting us be part of your amazing day. Congratulations to both of you!

Ashley and Jeff's Zukas Hilltop Barn Wedding

Ryan Williams

Zukas-Hilltop-Barn-Wedding-Four-Wings-Photography_0001.jpg

Ashley and Jeff were married on September 18th, with a ceremony and reception at Zukas Hilltop Barn in Spencer, MA.

Jeff and Ashley met while they were playing co-ed softball, and Jeff proposed while they were camping at Waterville Valley over the 4th of July weekend. Jeff had the ring inside his tent the entire time and finally asked her on the last day of their camping trip after they’d gone up to a lookout spot in the mountains.

On the day of the wedding, we were all a little nervous about the weather. The forecast said that it was supposed to rain all day, but luckily, it held out for us. We even got a little sunlight peeking through the clouds!

Jeff and Ashley opted not to do a first look and actually parted ways after the rehearsal dinner on Thursday. They hadn’t seen each other since then—until she walked down the aisle on Sunday. They had been in suspense and anticipation for the days leading up to the wedding, and it just made the looks on their faces when they finally saw each other again that much more memorable!

Ashley & Jeff, thank you for letting me be part of your amazing day. You two and your friends and family have such a special energy, and I loved being able to share that with you!
